In an effort to regulate morality, the Comstock Acts gives learners a look at how history indeed does repeat itself.  Proponents of regulating human behavior, even in the privacy of their own homes, lauded the crackdown on literature as "a revival of Puritan values."  The Society for the Supression of Vice went after everything from free love and birth control to Walt Whitman's poetry. Lesson 4 continues to highlight the leadership of women in the fight to defend free expression and reenforces the key elements of fear and abuse of power as being everpresent in book banning efforts.
